Rudi Garcia feels Roma “can see the light at the end of the tunnel” after their 2-0 victory over Genoa.

They were without a victory in seven competitive games and crashed out of the Coppa Italia to Spezia midweek.

“We wanted to win, although the tempo was too low in the first half. I liked the heart and soul of the team, they played with heart and I liked Umar Sadiq’s goal too,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“I think tonight we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We won, something that was important, but above all did so even when down to 10 men and proved impressive unity. That means the team is there, we remain close to second place and it’s all open for 2016.

“We will get the likes of Francesco Totti and Kevin Strootman back, while the fixture list will be less congested.”

Edin Dzeko was sent off for dissent after swearing at the referee and his goal drought is becoming an issue.

“Anyone who has played football knows the state of mind of a centre-forward and referees should keep that in consideration. Edin is lacking confidence and he shouldn’t have said that to the official.

“Sadiq is training with us now and doing very well. He is improving and is a player who belongs at Roma.”

So is Garcia confirmed on the Giallorossi bench?

“I work for the players and for Roma, we are three points off second place and that is what we wanted. As for my future, I cannot answer that, I just focus on what happens on the pitch.

“When the fans started chanting for us it gave the team more of a boost and we scored soon after. We had several chances to score more goals, but netting two with a clean sheet is really a good day.”

Tonight Lazio face runaway Serie A leaders Inter, so does that mean Roma fans have to cheer on their city rivals?

“Well, a draw would suffice…”
