Rudi Garcia said Roma must “lose with dignity” and move on after a 2-0 home defeat to Sampdoria.

The Giallorossi had been unbeaten at home in Serie A this season and it was their first defeat in the League since November, ending a streak of six wins and 10 draws.

However, the poor run of recent form has seen Lazio close to within a point of second place.

“Roma played, especially in the first half, but Sampdoria converted their chances and we did not,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Samp scored on their first opportunity thanks to our mistake on a corner. We tried to equalise, but down to 10 men it became difficult and we did play only three days ago.

“I thought that was an entirely avoidable red card.”

Both Seydou Keita – who was sent off for sarcastically applauding the referee – and Miralem Pjanic will be suspended against Cesena.

“I have always said that as long as we create scoring opportunities, then the team is working. We need to rediscover our scoring touch from Thursday.”

Roma will host Fiorentina in the Europa League, having drawn the first leg 1-1 at the Stadio Franchi.

“There’s no time to complain, we must lose with dignity and realise nothing is lost in Serie A. We have to pick up the points we dropped this evening, even though we’ll have fewer men available.”

Garcia was asked whether his star players had failed to deliver in recent weeks.

“It is normal to expect a lot from talented players and we have them. It means they have to resolve the game when the opportunity presents itself.”
