And with his positive nature on the sidelines, the 50-year-old has become a firm favourite around Stadio Olimpico.
“Of course I get angry sometimes,” he told the online news outlet. “But I like to keep measured during a game.
“I don’t like to get too euphoric, or too pessimistic. There’s a happy medium that I think works for Coaches.
“I raise my voice now and then. But if you’re always doing it, then I think something’s wrong.
“If you shout too much, then in the end it just goes in one ear and out of the other. When anger comes now and then it’s worth more.
“The only secret I can say is that you have to focus on the players you have at your disposal, not the environment around them.
“They have to want to play football and feel a certain pleasure doing it. At the end of the day, it’s only good when things work on the pitch. And to make it work, the players have to play with a sense of joy.
“It’s up to them. Players who train well and play well enjoy themselves – and more often than not, win.
“When I arrived here, I shut my ears to others’ advice. I didn’t want to listen to what had gone before, and I didn’t want to watch any previous games.
“For me, it was important to see with my own eyes what the players were like, and then I just went from there.
“I’m really enjoying my time here. It’s the capital – there are so many beautiful things to see and do here.
“I’m having a lot of fun. My enjoyment rubs off on the players, that then rubs on to the fans.”
