The Giallorossi went top of the League this weekend, a turnaround in fortunes after blowing a two-goal lead away to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

“You don’t end up being second twice without a spirit of sacrifice,” Garcia pointed out in his pre-Udinese Press conference when asked if this attitude was new.

“What I will say is that from the beginning of the season the lads have shown an attitude that I’ve liked. Wherever I’ve Coached, I’ve said that the team is the star.

“Here we have star individuals, but that has to remain the case. If everyone plays for the team, it helps the individuals to shine.

“What’s changed? I’ve said in at least three Press conferences, if you can’t score then you’ll have a hard time winning. That’s a quality of this team, but we need balance.

“The collective attitude, a win in Florence and a draw away in the Champions League are signs that the team is doing well.

“We always try to improve though. We were positive after Leverkusen, but fortunately the lads were angry.

"It was a game which started badly, then was going well, so to draw from there I’d expect the players to be angry, that’s the right attitude.

“In the cold light of day though, we know what we achieved, and an away draw in the Champions League is never a poor result, and the team responded fantastically after being 2-0 down.

“Only teams who are technically and mentally strong can do that. I prefer to look at the positive things and not the negative, even if there are stupid mistakes which must be corrected.

“A player with confidence is much stronger and more adventurous than a player who is low, because they have negative thoughts.

“My job is to show the team that they can do well.”

Against Fiorentina, Roma had just 30 per cent of the ball, having played that way against Barcelona, is that how they’ll counter passing teams from now on?

“It wasn’t random, it was due to our tactical approach. Against Barcelona we decided to sit back, hit on the break and shoot from the half-way line!” Garcia joked, referencing Alessandro Florenzi’s wondergoal.
