Alessandro Gamberini has urged Adrian Mutu and Alberto Gilardino to remain at Serie A giants Fiorentina.

Romanian enigma Mutu is being associated with a January move abroad, while the Italian striker is being constantly paired with Juventus.

"Mutu is very important for Fiorentina and for all of us in the squad," the Italian international stopper noted.

"Should we lose him then he would leave a massive hole that would need to be filled. Mutu is a player who can make the difference.

"Gilardino? They are only rumours," Gamberini smiled. "If Gila leaves then we'll go and pick him up from home and bring him back here with us…"

Meanwhile, reports on Friday are linking Alessandro Diamanti with a move to Florence should Mutu leave.

The Brescia fantasista, who recently won his first Italian cap, is viewed as a good alternative to the former Inter and Verona player.

Diamanti has spoken of his desire to wear the purple shirt again after spending six months with the club in Serie C when they were briefly known as Florentia Viola.
