Milan’s joint-CEO Adriano Galliani believes this season will be ‘the start of a new cycle’ under new Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The Rossoneri have failed to qualify for European competition for the past two seasons, but the director sees reason for optimism for the forthcoming campaign.

“It’s hard to see things repeating themselves completely in football and to me it seems like we’re in for a season full of change,” Galliani predicted, speaking to Milan Channel.

“[it will be] full of positive things, a lot of enthusiasm and certainly the start of a new cycle.

“If I had to name a former Milan coach that reminds me the most of Sinisa Mihajlovic, I would say Fabio Capello.

“The youth players Calabria and Donnarumma have impressed, and to think, all of our full-backs Abate, Calabria, Antonelli and De Sciglio came through our youth sector.

“It’s a great source of pride.

“Our captain [Riccardo Montolivo] is back after a nasty injury with the Italian national side, an injury which prevented him from playing last season but now he’s completely recovered, the pins have been removed and so I think that he will be an important player.”

Galliani also took a moment to reflect on Philippe Mexes’ stunning volleyed goal in the friendly win over Inter.

“Against Inter, we played well and created goal-scoring chances.

“The new signings settled in well, but what stood out was that gem from Mexes, a truly stunning goal.

“He doesn’t score many but they’ve all been spectacular.”
