“Fortunately over the last few years very few teams snub the Coppa Italia, though it used to happen once,” he told Rai Sport.

“Almost always now we see the cup won by one of the top five clubs in Serie A, so the sixth goes into Europe. We are playing with our first choice XI, as Alessio Romagnoli is only out because he has flu.”

Galliani is continuing to lead negotiations on the transfer market, as the sale to Chinese buyers won’t go through until at least next month.

“I will work until the final day that Fininvest are the owners of Milan. When they are no longer the patrons, I will do something else.

“We’re doing well and we’re happy with the approach focusing on young Italian players, someone that Silvio Berlusconi and I pushed for. There are more players born in 1999 and 2000 who are ready to enter the first team over the next few years.

“We have plenty of defenders, midfielders and strikers, so we are exclusively looking out for a wide attacker who can preferably play on the right or left.

“This player would allow Suso and Bonaventura to get some rest occasionally.”
