Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has just about given up hope of signing Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow.

The Diavolo have been trying to net the Japanese international for weeks, but the Russian club have so far refused to sell.

The midfielder will be available on a free transfer in January, but the San Siro giants have been trying to net him immediately by offering a nominal fee.

“Has Honda almost vanished? I think so, with the last telephone call,” the transfer chief noted. “The CSKA President has told me that he won’t sell.

“Therefore we will stay as we are. There are not a lot of transfer gifts out there for boss Massimiliano Allegri.”

The official then confirmed that M’Baye Niang, wanted by Genoa, would be remaining at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

“Niang will be staying with us, that is for certain. He also scored a really good goal against LA Galaxy.”

That strike came in a 2-0 win that ensured the Rossoneri finished their Guinness International Champions Cup campaign on a high.

“We played well and we took a really good third place,” Galliani added. “The team was well organised and played the ball around well.

“Serie A? Milan competed with everyone in the second half of the season last year and the team can be competitive again.”
