Cesare Maldini believes Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has always considered Pippo Inzaghi an ideal fit for the Rossoneri coaching position.

The 40-year-old is set to take over as San Siro boss from Clarence Seedorf, having spent the last two years in charge of the club’s Primavera youth team.

Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, Maldini senior said that he is not surprised by the impending appointment and outlined what he feels Inzaghi must do in order to be successful in his new role.

“Pippo has been given a great opportunity and I send him my congratulations,” Maldini said.

“I am not surprised, Galliani is the one behind the deal and he has always thought of Pippo as being suited to the Rossoneri job.

“He needs to be good at teaching the young players, while with the senior players he needs to have a dialogue with them and know how to push the right buttons.

“Through the course of his career, Pippo has always been someone who talks to everyone. He did a great job with the Primavera team and that has now taken him to the first team.”
