“From the beginning they made me understand that they aspire to bring Inter back to where they deserve to be. In a few years we’ll definitely be at the top of the world.

“In the meantime I’d tell the fans to support us and believe in us. We’ll work to achieve our goals.”

Gagliardini was also asked how he is adapting to life with the Beneamata.

“It’s been a good start for me. I’m happy, it’s been easy with the help of my teammates and the Coach [Stefano Pioli], they put me at ease.

“I don’t think too much about the ‘step-up’, it was certainly a good start and I want to continue to do just as well.

“I’m close with [Danilo] D’Ambrosio, we sit close to each other in the dressing room. He’s a southerner, with a very open character.

“As for Pioli, he’s very knowledgeable Coach who prepares games in detail. We could have played better against Roma, but that’s in the past.

“There are a lot of games still to go, and we’re working to recover like we did after the last setback against Juve. We know the game against Roma was important, so we see it as a bad defeat.”
