Gabriel was “very happy” with his Serie A debut, as the Milan goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Udinese.

“It was a great debut for me and I am very happy,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Of course there’s going to be a little tension at the start, as this was a difficult game we had to win. We slowly started to gain confidence and it went very well at the end.”

It wasn’t too simple for him, as Gabriel had to fingertip an Antonio Di Natale free kick on to the crossbar.

“The Coach had already warned me Di Natale took great free kicks and I had seen some of his games before. When I saw it was his free kick, I expected him to go near post and thankfully I was able to get a hand to it.”

The 21-year-old Brazilian was picked after Christian Abbiati suffered a calf injury this morning, but can he be the present as well as the future of Milan?

“I am not the one to answer this question, as that is down to the Coach and club. I am working to grow and to learn, so good things will happen, such as this debut.”

Gabriel cannot play against Barcelona on Tuesday, as he is not in the Champions League squad, so Marco Amelia will start instead.

“When the Champions League list was drawn up, I was not 100 per cent due to a shoulder injury, so the Coach made the right choice. Now I am fit, thank God.”
