Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has insisted that the club want to go all the way and win the Europa League following the Knockout round play-off draw on Monday morning.

The Rossoneri will face Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais over two legs, beginning in mid-February.

Milan had qualified for Europe’s secondary competition after finishing third in their Champions League group, which contained the successful Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Newcastle, whom Milan beat 2-1 in the final game of the groups.

Furlaini, speaking to reporters at the Lega Serie A HQ after the draw on Monday, said that he felt “indifferent” about Milan’s upcoming opponents.

He explained: “If we want to win the Europa League, anybody would have been fine. We have to be ready to face everyone.”

Those targets were echoed by centre-back Fikayo Tomori when he spoke to the media in the immediate aftermath of Milan’s elimination from the Champions League last week.

Furlani also went on to answer questions about Milan’s form in Serie A, having beaten Monza 3-0 at San Siro thanks to goals from Tijjani Reijnders, teenager Jan-Carlo Simic and summer signing Noah Okafor on Sunday.

“It was nice to have won yesterday, but it’s a shame for the boys who got injured.

“It (Milan’s injury concerns) is not easy, we are working on it. Luckily the young guys who came on deserved their chance and have received good feedback.”
