Inter’s Forlan is keen to be one of La Celeste’s over-23 representatives and add to his country's all-time record of 85 caps.

“I hope to be there, but it is not up to me,” the former Atletico Madrid man told Uruguayan radio.

“I patiently await the choices made by the Coach and I am aware that you must play and work in order to be among those called up.

“I’m not obsessed, for if I did not make the squad or if I do not receive permission from Inter then it would be a disappointment.”

The mens’ event is held between July 26 and August 11, cutting across what is traditionally pre-season in the Italian football calendar.
