German Denis is targeting a return to the Atalanta attack ahead of schedule in order to face former side Napoli in Week 32.

Former Vesuviani man Denis suffered a calf strain in training this week with the original diagnosis suggesting that he will be out for three weeks.

Despite this, Denis believes he will only miss two of the Bergamo side’s next few games, targeting a return to action by Week 31 – a week ahead of schedule and ahead of the team's trip south to Naples.

“I’m trying to quickly heal from my injury,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“I will try to return to the field for Siena, and then I think I’ll be able to play against Napoli when we visit the San Paolo.”

Atalanta also lost Guido Marilungo to ligament damage this week, leaving Manolo Gabbiadini as the team’s first-choice available forward.

“Gabbiadini? I think he’s a great player. He lacks some experience in Serie A, but in my opinion because of his quality he will become a great player.”

Denis spent two years at Napoli, but from 63 appearances only managed 13 goals.

“Regrets for my time in Naples? I have no regrets, I did well. Of my former teammates, I often talk to Pocho [Ezequiel Lavezzi], [Hugo] Campagnaro and Paolo Cannavaro.

“[Walter] Mazzarri’s team were unlucky in the Champions League against Chelsea. The guys did everything right in London, what a shame.
