The Giallorossi rotated the squad, partly due to injuries and suspension, but also as they played in the Europa League with Ajax on Thursday night.

Although Borja Mayoral had given them the early lead, Toro fought back for a 3-1 victory with Antonio Sanabria, Simone Zaza and Tomas Rincon goals.

“There are many regrets, because we had the chances to finish it off and we didn’t take them,” Fonseca told Roma TV.

“Torino did better in the second half and I have to say they deserved the victory. When you make many changes from one game to the next, it can affect the team. We were without Leonardo Spinazzola, Riccardo Calafiori, Gianluca Mancini and others we lost midweek. It shouldn’t happen, though.”

Roma are now in seventh place, four points behind Lazio, who have a game in hand, and their midweek round will be against Atalanta in third.

“We’ve got to keep going. It’s difficult now, but we must continue fighting. We have an important competition like the Europa League, but have to take it one game at a time.

“Now we’ll have to see who recovers in time for Atalanta.”
