The referees have been in the spotlight after Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso called them out after their recent match against Juventus.
Now, Fonseca has joined the choir and criticised the match officials in Italy for their inconsistencies.
“I believe that Roma are partially targeted,” he said at a press conference. “Against Sassuolo, we didn’t lose because of the referee.
“I don’t like to talk about the mistakes of the match officials, but it’s difficult to understand how a team like ours can have so many yellow cards.
“I have been watching many games in Italy and the referees here are never the same, they are not on the same page.”
The 4-2 defeat to the Neroverdi last weekend has prolonged Giallorossi's run to three games without a win and they are currently placed fifth in Serie A.
