Matteo Politano has revealed he is “happy to have chosen” Napoli and has vowed to return “to my best form” at the San Paolo.

After struggling to convince Antonio Conte at the Giuseppe Meazza this term, Politano moved to Napoli during the transfer window in January.

He likes the environment at his new club and has claimed Gennaro Gattuso’s system will suit him better than the one at Inter.

“In the 4-3-3 I manage to express myself in a better way and I’m therefore happy to have chosen Napoli,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss. “A month ago, there was a shy approach from [director Cristiano] Giuntoli, but I didn’t think I would land so soon in Campania.

“I saw a good Napoli team against Inter, condemned by two mistakes. In the last few matches, it has seemed like team on the rise.

“It’s a nice group, they have welcomed me in a great way. The stadium is beautiful, the fans are very warm. I like the Neapolitan environment. I hope to do well here, to return to my best form. At Inter, I did well last year, I would like to repeat it here.

Napoli tried to bring Politano from Sassuolo, but he ended up at San Siro and has claimed he “never” rejected the approach from the Partenopei.

Now he is focused on impressing at the San Paolo to help himself make the Italy squad ahead of the Euro 2020 this summer.

“I never said no to Napoli. Two years ago, they didn’t find an agreement with Sassuolo,” he said. “I want to do well for Napoli to claim a spot in the European Championship.

He talked about his “great relationship” with Lorenzo Insigne and revealed the Partenopei captain had tried to convince him of coming to Naples.

“Lorenzo is a great champion, on and off the pitch. We are happy that he is our captain, because he can make the difference. I have a great relationship with him. For years, he has told me to come to Naples, and now I’m here.”
