“The game is Istanbul is behind us now, we must focus only on Verona,” said the coach in his press conference after Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League victory over Basaksehir.

“It’s going to be a difficult match against a good team, who are fast in attack and aggressive in defence. They have the second best defensive record in Serie A this season, so it’ll be a very different game to Istanbul and very difficult.”

The injury crisis is finally starting to calm down, as the Giallorossi have Lorenzo Pellegrini, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nikola Kalinic back, but Nicolò Zaniolo is suspended.

“Mkhitaryan is not ready for 90 minutes, but he is getting stronger every day. We have three possibilities at full-back, as Alessandro Florenzi has strained, but there’s also Davide Santon and Leonardo Spinazzola, so I have to think about the characteristics of the opposition.

“I can confirm that Gianluca Mancini will play tomorrow. We are not looking for any midfielders on the January transfer market.

“When I arrived, Justin Kluivert had to improve defensively, so we worked on that a lot in training and I think it’s clear he is a different player now in that sense.

“The whole team has improved, but I want us to dominate the opponents. It’s not easy to do that in Italy, but I like when my team has a lot of possession.

“I won’t tell you what we’ve been working on in training for Verona, otherwise Ivan Juric will know everything. We prepared a certain way of playing against teams that man-mark.”
