Paulo Fonseca says Roma players are aware tomorrow's game against Ajax is the most important one of the season: 'We can't afford mistakes.'

The Giallorossi host Ajax at the Stadio Olimpico in the Europa League quarter-finals second leg tomorrow. They beat The Lancers 2-1 in Amsterdam last week.

"It's the most important game of the season so far. We don't have to think about the game played in Amsterdam," Fonseca said at a press conference.

"It's the most important game of the season so far. We don't have to think about the game played in Amsterdam," Fonseca said at a press conference.

"We'll need the same attitude of the last two games. It will be a difficult match. Ajax are very strong and will want to win, but the lads know how important this moment is," the coach continued.

"We need a perfect game tomorrow. Ajax are a strong team, and we have prepared the game focusing on defensive details. We must defend well as they are solid up front.

"We all know we can't make mistakes. We must be balanced and focused."

Chris Smalling is not available with a muscle injury, but when will he return to action?

"He has started the work for individual recovery, I think he is close [to returning], but it's up to him and how he feels," Fonseca claimed.

"The team is feeling well, both mentally and physically. We are motivated, and the lads have understood the importance of the game.

"We have prepared the game as we usually do. Ajax are a solid team, but we have prepared the match to avoide them do what they want."
