Roma face Spezia away tomorrow in Fonseca’s last game as the Roma coach.

WThe players are motivated, we have trained well this week. We are aware that it is important to win to qualify for Europe,” the Portuguese tactician said at a press conference.

“Spezia play really well, they always want to have the initiative. Italiano is a great coach with a bright future, it’s not easy to play against them but we want to win,” he continued.

“I am proud to have been the Roma coach, I’ve learned a lot here. Fans have always been kind to me, I leave Roma, but the club and these fans remain in my heart.”

What’s the best thing he did as the Roma coach?

“It’s hard to pick one. Probably the nicest thing is the relationship I’ve created with people, with you journalists, with the fans and everyone who’s worked with me over the last two years. It was a respectful and honest relationship.

“We played a good brand of football, but it’s hard to pick the best game.”

The Portuguese coach had arguments with Edin Dzeko who was stripped of the captain’s armband in January.

“That didn’t affect his season,” Fonseca said.

“This is something that happens in every team. In the last game, Dzeko proved all the problems have been solved, as it happens everywhere.”

Is he disappointed by Pedro’s campaign?

“I think he had a solid start, but then suffered a few physical issues and it was challenging for him to get fit again. In the last few games, he seemed the same player of the beginning of the season.”

What has he taught to the team during his two-year spell?

“The need to always keep the balance and don’t make a drama when they lose games. There is a lot of pressure here, but they should forget about this feeling, it’s important not to make a drama and react.”
