Paulo Fonseca claims he has never seen anything like Roma’s current injury crisis and that it is “impossible” to mould his squad right now.

Roma have eight absences for the visit of Borussia Monchengladbach in the Europa League tomorrow after full-back Davide Santon was struck down by flu.

“I’d never suffered so many injuries in the past,” Fonseca said at a Press conference.

“I think it’s bad luck. We must fight these difficulties and we’re ready to do so. In light of our absences, we could change something.

“It’s impossible to achieve a level of growth and progression with all these injuries.

“It’s true that in the match against Sampdoria, the team didn’t express themselves in the best way and could’ve done more.

“We miss some important players and, that, consistency. It’s no excuse but simply reality.

“Borussia are a good team, top of the Bundesliga. I expect a match similar to the one against Atalanta.

“Pastore’s a special case right now, so he has to be managed calmly, but he’s available.

“Santon has the flu and Under’s resumed training, Mkhitaryan too. I think they’ll be available soon.

“We have only Veretout in midfield. Some Primavera players will join us tomorrow.”

Roma squad to face Monchengladbach: Pau Lopez, Cardinali, Mirante; Juan Jesus, Smalling, Kolarov, Fazio, Mancini, Florenzi; Spinazzola, Calafiori, Perotti, Veretout, Zaniolo, Pastore, Riccardi; Dzeko, Antonucci, Kluivert
