The Roman born and bred midfielder is among the most beloved players in the capital, as he seems to represent much of what is best and most genuine in the Giallorossi.

The Roman born and bred midfielder is among the most beloved players in the capital, as he seems to represent much of what is best and most genuine in the Giallorossi.

“This is the strongest Roma I've ever played in,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport. “We're going to go far.

“Barcelona's interest? You have to live day by day, without thinking about tomorrow.

“I'm enjoying my splendid Roma, after that we'll see. Now I'm thinking about winning here but I'd be daft to claim I'm not flattered by Barca's interest. It means I'm doing well and I'm on the right track.

“But it's certainly going to be a difficult game with them," he said, in reference to the Champions League clash next Tuesday. "They're the strongest team in the world, but against them at the Olimpico we managed an exploit.

“We'll go to Spain with no fear, looking to make the best of the opportunities we're given. It's going to depend on our next two matches and our attitude. We need points against Barcelona and Bate Borisov.”

The 24-year-old was then asked about Francesco Totti, who is out with injury, and about the Scudetto race.

“We miss Totti a lot, for the person that he is and for what he gives on the pitch. He is very important to us.

“As for our Scudetto rivals, Napoli have a great Coach and great individuals. [Gonzalo] Higuain is scary.

“Our up-and-down results in August and September were deceptive, because we played some good football without taking the chances we created. Now we're on the right path and we must keep going.

“[Edin] Dzeko is really helping us improve. He scores, he creates assists, he plays for the team. He's the top player that will deliver great results for us.”
