The Frenchman has been with the Rossoneri for the past four seasons on a €4.5m per year contract, but he is ready to walk out after the club were unwilling to offer him the same terms again.

Milan don’t want to lose the 28-year-old altogether, but his erratic form and series of injuries meant they only offered a new contract with vastly reduced wages – in the region of €1.8m a year.

Flamini is only willing to reduce his current deal to €2.5m annually so will leave Milan at the end of June to take up a fresh challenge outside of Italy.

Malaga, the oil-rich Spanish side, have been linked with a move for the midfielder and have the funds to meet his financial demands.

Milan may now revive their interest in signing Alberto Aquilani on a permanent basis from Liverpool after his loan stint with the Diavolo came to an end.
