Mathieu Flamini claims he was sent off for a horror tackle on Juan Camilo Zuniga “because I wanted to prove to everyone I’m worthy of the Milan shirt.”
The Frenchman had scored the opening goal in this 1-1 draw with Napoli, but was then shown a straight red card for his two-footed challenge.
“I am happy for the goal, especially as it was my second in as many games, but I am disappointed at the red card,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“The tackle was so determined because I wanted to prove to everyone that I am a player again, full of enthusiasm and someone who is worthy of the Milan shirt.
“It was a mistake to leave the team with 10 men, but I had so much hunger and determination that these things can happen in football.”
Flamini hinted this week he could leave San Siro for a return to France.
“I just said ‘never say never’ with regards to the possibility of moving to Marseille.”
