Former Fiorentina defender and captain Davide Astori would have turned 35 today and the Tuscans shared a message to remember him on social media: ‘Forever with us.’

Astori was born at San Gioacomo Bianco in the Province of Bergamo 35 years ago.

A former Cagliari, Roma and Fiorentina defender, Astori had 14 Italy caps to his name and played 289 games in Serie A.

He died on the morning of Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Udinese on March 4, 2018.

Fiorentina still remember their former captain before and during every home game. His name is announced after the starting line-up and fans at the Artemio Franchi give him a standing ovation in minute 13. This happens every time Fiorentina play at home.

The Tuscans have also named their training centre after Astori and today, on the day of his 35th birthday, they shared a social media message to once again pay tribute to the ex defender.

“Davide Astori forever with us,” Fiorentina wrote on Twitter, posting a picture of Astori celebrating a goal with their current captain Davide Biraghi.
