Ex-referee Andrea De Marco warns Fiorentina and Roma that tonight’s Europa League tie won’t be officiated like Serie A.

The two Italian clubs go head-to-head in the first leg of the Round of 16 at 20.05 GMT.

The game will be officiated by Spanish referee Antonio Mateh Lahoz.

“He has experience and quality with many games, including in the Champions League,” De Marco told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I consider this to be a suitable assignation. Like all Spanish referees, he is considered ‘harsh’ compared to the Italian style.

“He requires great discipline from the players and keeps a very close eye on shirt-tugging. His severity can cause him to whip out the red card in dubious situations.

“The two defences will need to be very careful tonight.”
