Fiorentina patron Andrea Della Valle says the club must be self-financing – “the only one that isn’t doing it is Milan”.

The Della Valle family have put the club up for sale, but so far no credible buyer has come forward.

It has been claimed in recent days that they’ll keep hold of the Viola, but will insist that the club supports itself.

“Self-financing? It’s a word [autofinanziamento in Italian] no-one likes, but every club is implementing it,” Della Valle told reporters as he attended an event in Florence.

“Self-financing? It’s a word [autofinanziamento in Italian] no-one likes, but every club is implementing it,” Della Valle told reporters as he attended an event in Florence.

“The only one that isn’t doing it is Milan. Our self-financing means having important budgets to create a Fiorentina which can fight for, at least, the Europa League.

“Fiorentina must always have that objective. Other Presidents are gaining a lot from football, also with good results.

“This is our first year without Europe, so we’re aiming for the Coppa Italia. This group will give us a lot of satisfaction in the future.”

It has been rumoured that the Della Valle family are interested in buying Ascoli, but Andrea dismissed those rumours.

"As we say these days, it's fake news."
