Fiorentina have reportedly made an approach for ex-Inter boss Luciano Spalletti after a poor run of form under Vincenzo Montella.

Following their 5-2 away defeat to Cagliari, the Viola sit 9th in the table and have won only one of their last five games in Serie A.

Now, Firenze Viola claims the club's hierarchy are not happy with recent performances and today made contact with Spalletti.

The 60-year-old has been out of a job since leaving Inter at the end of last season.

However, as Milan learned earlier in the campaign, he is is still on the Nerazzurri's payroll so Fiorentina will need to negotiate a severance package.

His high salary may also prove problematic, but the report states that if results don't turn around soon, the club will look to reach a settlement with Inter and meet Spalletti's demands.

Fiorentina appeared to have turned a corner with Montella after a five-game unbeaten run, which saw them win three times and draw with champions Juventus.
