Fiorentina are in advanced talks with Napoli for midfielder Diego Demme, but could end up keeping Sofyan Amrabat after Manchester United finally made an offer considered to be insulting.

Demme received very little playing time last season and is not part of new coach Rudi Garcia’s plans.

He had been close to Hertha Berlin, but now seems to be staying in Serie A with Fiorentina.

However, Demme’s arrival would not necessarily mean the departure of Amrabat from the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The Morocco international was promised after the collapse of the January move to Barcelona that he could leave this summer for the right price, set at a minimum of €30m.

This was considered more than fair, as he impressed at the 2022 World Cup and then helped Fiorentina reach the Final of both the Conference League and Coppa Italia.

Amrabat had his heart set on Manchester United, waiting months for them to make any formal offer.

When that finally arrived this week, it was reported to be just a loan without option to buy for €2m, split between September and January.

It was viewed as positively insulting by Fiorentina chiefs, who do not need to sell Amrabat.

His contract runs to the end of this season, but with an option to extend to June 2025.
