Fiorentina’s wastefulness ultimately cost them as they fell to a solid Lazio in a tough 4-0 loss tonight.

The Viola had the lion’s share of the shots at the Stadio Artemio Franchi but failed to find the back of the net on a warm evening in Florence, allowing the Biancocelesti to head home with all three points after another defensively strong performance.

Lazio took the lead after just 11 minutes from a corner, with Matias Vecino’s glancing header enough to guide the ball past Pietro Terracciano. Things went from bad to worse 14 minutes later after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s ball was met by a darting Mattia Zaccagni, who headed home the second.

Despite their disadvantage, Vincenzo Italiano’s side showed good spirit as they looked to find a goal of their own, but despite taking 23 shots they still couldn’t hit the back of the net.

Luis Alberto got on the scoresheet with less than five minutes left and a great piece of link-up play between Milinkovic-Savic and Ciro Immobile saw Lazio net their fourth in the dying minutes of the match, leaving the Viola exasperated and dejected.

The win puts Lazio third in the Serie A table after nine games, drawing level on points with Udinese and Milan. Fiorentina are left 13th in the table, far off where they and Italiano expected them to be at this stage of the season.
