The Viola were steamrolled by the Old Lady yesterday evening for a 3-0 defeat in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final.

Della Valle, speaking after the game, admitted Fiorentina have struggled for luck when it comes to decisive games.

“We are very disappointed,” he told the Press. “We were missing a lot of players and that made a difference. As usual, we have problems when we play crucial games.

“We confronted a great Juventus team, I have no reproaches for my boys.

“We must react right away, we have the championship and the Europa League.

“I am an optimist by nature. Twice we cheered for a goal but saw them both disallowed, it's a shame but that's football.”

Nonetheless the 49-year-old saw a silver lining in Fiorentina's overall performance this season.

“We do have the right spirit. This team is doing great things. On Saturday [against Sampdoria in Serie A] we expended a lot of energy and the lads suffered the consequences on the pitch.”
