Fiorentina are standing behind goalkeeper Norbeto Neto despite his mistake in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Brazilian has been promoted to the first choice this season after the club opted against signing Emiliano Viviano outright following his loan stint from Palermo.

“Neto is our goalkeeper and boss Vincenzo Montella has said as much,” Viola chief Andrea Della Valle told Sky Sport Italia.

“There is a lot of pressure on him, but he just needs to stay calm. He played well against Grasshopper and his teammates know that as well.

“It is just an unfortunate moment, but everyone is staying close to him – the players and the Coach,” Della Valle added.

“We have given other youngsters time and we will give him that as well. Neto is our goalkeeper and we have an excellent second-choice too.”

The 24-year-old Neto appeared in six Serie A games last term. Reserve ‘keeper Gustavo Munua, 35, was signed in the summer after his contract at Levante expired.
