Fiorentina were shown they still have plenty to work on after suffering a difficult 2-1 loss to Galatasaray in tonight’s pre-season friendly.

The Viola were caught off guard after only five minutes at the Untersberg-Arena in Austria, allowing Muhammed Akturkoglu to find the opener before Vincenzo Italiano’s side had time to settle.

Fiorentina grew into the match and created a number of good chances as the first half progressed, but just before the half time break a defence error allowed Galatasaray to double their lead thanks to Emre Akbaba.

Italiano’s side fought hard in the second half and continued to push, despite not being awarded a fairly obvious penalty following a foul on Giacomo Bonaventura. In the 72nd minute their efforts were finally rewarded, when Riccardo Sottil finally gave Fiorentina something to smile about.

Unfortunately, though, it wasn’t enough and the Viola were ultimately left with plenty to think about following the full time whistle.

  1. Strange article.

Going by the headline and closing sentence, you could be forgiven for thinking the Viola were both battered on the pitch and on the receiving end of a thrashing on the scoreboard.

Neither are the case. Fiorentina played well (against a larger, more experienced club) and only lost 2-1.
