The Nerazzurri had a dominant grip on Italian football after Calciopoli with five consecutive Scudetti (including the 2005-06 edition assigned by the courts), but finished in sixth place last season.
“Inter’s era has come to an end, but the club is working to get back to being the winning side of previous years,” said Figo.
“Scudetto? We’d have to prove that we deserve it. It’s true that we miss the Champions League a great deal, both in terms of prestige and income, but we are in the Europa League now and will try to make the most of it.”
There had been reports Figo was in the frame to take over from Claudio Ranieri towards the end of last season, though Andrea Stramaccioni was promoted from the Primavera youth team instead.
“No, I was never asked, so it was only ever a rumour. At the moment I am not thinking about a management career, as it’s too stressful. After 20 years as a player, I need a little time for me and my family.
“I am curious to see if I’d be able to handle a squad like Inter or the Portugal team, but it’s too early for that now.”
