Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero said he’ll “take Francesco Totti” if he decides to leave Roma this summer.

According to multiple reports, Totti has decided he wants to continue playing after turning 40 in September, but Roma would prefer he retire and join the club staff.

The most likely option now is a move to America for MLS or even Dubai.

“I hear that Totti could go abroad because Roma won’t renew his contract,” Ferrero told news agency Ansa.

“In my view that’s impossible, because he is a monument of Italian football, a world heritage site protected by Unesco.

“Therefore I’ll take Totti at Samp. He represents a work of art for Italian football and must be protected.

“I confirm to Totti: if you think your story with Roma is at an end, then come to wear the shirt with the most beautiful colours in the world, that of Sampdoria.”

Totti would be reunited with his former Roma teammate Antonio Cassano.
