Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero has been referred to the disciplinary commission of the FIGC following his racial jibe at Erick Thohir.

The Blucerchiati supremo branded his Inter counterpart as ‘that Filipino’ during a television interview on the topic of Massimo Moratti’s resignation a fortnight ago, and he will now face potential disciplinary action as part of an investigation.

A statement on the Italian Football Federation’s official website reads: “The Federal Prosecutor and his assistant Federal Prosecutor have referred the President of the Sampdoria, Massimo Ferrero, before the Tribunale Federale Nazionale for having, in regards to the statements he made to cameras during October 26’s broadcast of Stadio Sprint on Rai 2 and reported by the mainstream Press, publicly expressed statements that were prejudicial, offensive and discriminatory on ethnic grounds against Inter President Erick Thohir.”

Ferrero has apologised for the statement made and Thohir did comment on the incident in an interview released today.
