Sampdoria owner Massimo Ferrero has promised to strengthen his squad when the transfer window reopens in January.

Ferrero responded to a comment on Twitter from a fan, who asked the Samp President whether he would bring in new faces to help new boss Claudio Ranieri in his fight to avoid the drop.

"Thanks for your support. The fact that the fans insult me is part of the game," he wrote.

"And I'm the lesser evil. I would like to reassure and comfort you all that we'll leave this difficult period.

"There'll be an opening to intervene on the market in January and I'll take care of it. Forza Samp."

The Blucerchiati have endured an horrendous start to the season, with ex-Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco dismissed after only seven rounds.

They have since turned to Ranieri, who has drawn two and lost one of his first three games at the helm.
