Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero claims the signing of Dennis Praet will be 'a present' that proves 'we want to invest in a project'.

The Belgian from Anderlecht is believed to be closer to the Blucerchiati than to any other team in Serie A, in spite of being sought out by several European heavy-weights.

“Praet is a present I want to make to the fans and to the Coach to prove that Sampdoria is more than just a transitional port,” Ferrero told Il Secolo XIX. “It's a precise project of formation, with a young and very talented squad.

“Praet is 22 years old, but everywhere in Europe he is considered a top player. Bringing him to Genoa is a great effort, but we do it out of love for Sampdoria, because Giampaolo deserves all the players he needs for his game.

“It's the proof that I want to invest. If Torino sell [Ciro] Immobile, Bruno Peres, [Kamil] Glik, and probably [Nikola] Maksimovic, they're revolutionising the squad.

“If we do the same thing, we're dismantling our team rather than buying the best youngsters. It's the other way round.”
