Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero says Sinisa Mihajlovic “abandoned” him, but Vincenzo Montella is “the best in the world”.

Mihajlovic left the Blucerchiati this summer to take over at Milan, and his Rossoneri will face Samp at San Siro this weekend.

“I’m very fond of Sinisa,” Ferrero told Sky ahead of the match.

“Coaches are like wives though. He’s found another, and has abandoned me. I’m a lucky man though, because I found Montella, and he’s the best in the world.

“All games are difficult, we’ll bring a different air to Milan, there’s always smog.

“Ciao Sinisa, may the best man win.”

Ferrero was also asked whether Montella’s approach on the training ground is different from Mihajlovic’s.

“I don’t know, you’d have to ask [sporting director Carlo] Osti, for me training sessions are all the same.

“Certainly in Montella I’ve found someone who has a great desire to do well. He’s showing that he wants to work and build, he’s a great motivator.”
