Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero say it’s time to “turn the page” on Antonio Cassano, but the striker wants to stay.

The forward has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving the Blucerchiati, even if they offer to pay-off his contract.

It appears that there will be an impasse, however, as the club’s President wants FantAntonio to leave.

“In view of his quality, tenacity and the will of Cassano to return to what has become his city, we made an effort and gave him a great opportunity,” Ferrero explained at Marco Giampaolo’s official presentation.

“I think we did everything possible, but I think it’s time to turn the page. We’ll find a solution, because we are two gentlemen.

“He appreciated the fact we brought him back here, but we have to turn the page now. I appreciate Cassano, and we’ll find a solution.

“Is it related to Vincenzo Montella? No, it’s nothing to do with that. It’s a club choice. Cassano is a great champion, you know how much I love him, but I want to see younger lads on the pitch.

“Giampaolo will be able to create a team from an Italian base, from our youth system. There’s nothing personal with Cassano.”
