Felipe Anderson confirms he returned to Lazio ‘full of motivation’ and inspired by Maurizio Sarri’s advice after the 2-0 Europa League win over Lokomotiv Moscow.

Toma Basic marked his first start in the Biancocelesti jersey with a goal, while Patric made the most of a goalkeeping error on a corner to seal the 2-0 result this evening.

There were many more chances, including Pedro smashing one off the underside of the crossbar.

“I returned full of motivation, I was given another very warm welcome here and worked really hard over the summer to get into shape,” Felipe Anderson told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s the start of a new project, we still have to get more well-drilled, but we’re on the right track.”

Sarri said that Felipe Anderson doesn’t even realise his own potential, something that has also been said at West Ham United.

“I can improve every day. Everyone has their own timing and path, I am working to have that next step up in quality that everyone asks me for. I hope that it will come soon and I can use that to help the team.

“Sarri wanted me from the start. He has very clear ideas, I arrived knowing he had faith in me and I wanted to give my best.

“He tells me that I need to improve in many aspects, but we’ll do great things together over time. He asks for more movement off the ball and to trust my abilities.”

Lazio seem to have turned a corner after beating Roma 3-2 in the Derby della Capitale.

“A victory like Sunday’s gives everyone more confidence. We worked so hard over the summer, but then conceded early goals in our first few matches and needed to work on things. We’ve worked, clarified issues and have found the right path.”
