Speculation persists that Falcao could swap clubs with Andre Silva, although the chances of a deal hang in the balance, given Milan’s precarious financial position and that UEFA is likely to exclude the Rossoneri from next season’s Europa League.

“I’ve read and heard about Milan’s interest, and it’s an honour that a club like them are following me,” the 32-year-old said after he scored in his country’s 3-0 World Cup win against Poland.

“I follow Italian football, Serie A’s the most difficult League and I know the Rossoneri are the club who have won the second-most Champions Leagues.

“For now, I’m still under contract with Monaco and I’m only thinking about Monaco and the national team, but it’s clear that I like both Italy and Italian football.”

Filippo Galli, who will vacate his role as the Rossoneri’s youth chief on July 1, added to Premum Sport: “Falcao’s a great finisher and an experienced player.

“I believe the club have already contacted him and that he can be the right man for Gattuso.”
