Fabregas was heavily linked with Milan on deadline day last month after he initially struggled for appearances under Conte, but the Spaniard played a key role in Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Leicester City on Tuesday, his two goals sending the Blues into the EFL Cup fourth round.

“I’m sorry to be playing a little, but I know I’m at the right level to be a part of this team,” he told Cadena COPE.

“Conte? He’s a great coach with a special philosophy, we like him.

“The future? I live everything with serenity and maturity. Of course I’d like to play more, but I know I can be important even just for 15 minutes.

“I’m training like never before, and mentally I feel sensations that I’ve never experienced.

“I have a great desire within, to play and work. I’m doing my best to convince Conte and ensure that I can stay here.

“Even in the summer, when there were so many rumours, I never thought about leaving Chelsea.”
