An extreme plan has been floated which would see all the remaining Serie A games played and teams hosted in the Rome area, which has been less hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

The league ground to a halt due to the crisis and there are several options for resumption, including start dates on May 20, May 28 or even in June.

According to La Repubblica, there is also a more extreme solution which would see all 20 teams camped out in and around the Rome area, playing their games there too to minimise travel and contact with those outside the club.

It’d allow for regular testing of players and staff, while reporters would also be excluded from the buildings.

This ‘quarantine’ would last for 45 days, enough to get the players back in shape after the long lay-off.

There are several stadiums representing various levels of club football in the Lazio region, including the Stadio Flaminio, Frosinone’s Stadio Stirpe and of course the Stadio Olimpico.

The north of Italy, above all Lombardy, has been hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, but Rome and the south remains relatively untouched in comparison.
