Former Cagliari attacker Krystian Popiela has died, aged just 20.
Sardegna Sport reports Popiela lost his life in a car accident on Sunday evening, when he lost control of his Volkswagen Passat and crashed into a guardrail in his native Poland.
“Cagliari Calcio, deeply saddened by this tragic news, rally around the family of the young Krystian Popiela, who died aged just 20,” read a statement on the Sardinians’ official website.
“Popiela arrived in Sardinia as a 17-year-old, debuting with the Primavera team in January 2016.

“Popiela arrived in Sardinia as a 17-year-old, debuting with the Primavera team in January 2016.
“A physically-strong centre-forward, he played 10 times, making an important contribution to our conquest in the playoffs, before continuing his career in his Poland.
“Always smiling during his stay in Sardinia, he was able to win over the affection and affinity of everyone, from his teammates to the directors. Goodbye, Krystian.”
It is the second tragedy to involve an ex-Cagliari player this year after Davide Astori.
