According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Christian Eriksen is tempted by a return to Ajax, where he could play with a heart defibrillator implanted.

The 29-year-old is unlikely to be given the green light to play in Serie A again after having a heart starter implanted last summer.

Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark-Finland at the Euros and was given life-saving aid on the pitch.

In Italy, it’s forbidden to play with a heart defibrillator implanted, as per the Cardiological Organizational Committee for Sports Fitness protocol, which was updated in 2017.

Italian authorities do not allow play any contact sport with a heart defibrillator implanted as any contact or hit could break the device.

Eriksen can’t play in Italy, Inter open for possible move abroad

Eriksen still has a chance to play in Italy, but doctors would need to prove a temporary illness or a virus caused his heart disease.

Eriksen could continue playing in other European divisions, such as the Erediviese, where Ajax and the Netherlands defender Daley Blind plays with a heart starter implanted.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Inter don’t expect to get any payment for Eriksen, but his exit would allow the Serie A champions to save his €7.5m-a-year salary.

The report specifies that every decision will be taken together with the player and his entourage, with whom Inter are on excellent terms.

5 thought on “Eriksen tempted by Ajax return”
  1. I hope it works out for him. Such a shame he can’t continue in Italy but Ajax seems like a great alternative. May he play for many more years without incident.

  2. Christian has a lot of money, a loving family and a good life. Time to say goodbye to football and enjoy the hard work he has done all these years. There is no reason to risk it all playing profesionally again

  3. He will end up in FC Copenhagen to play with his childhood friend Rasmus Falk. Wait and see.
