The German international has immediately claimed in the starting line-up at BVB after his transfer in January but the Old Lady’s former midfielder can’t avoid questions regarding the talisman at the Allianz Stadium.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is a leader and a winner,” he told Bild. “He also drives you in training games. If he loses, he remains in a bad mood.

“But if he wins, on the other hand, he is happy and never misses a chance to make fun of the losers and make them carry the defeat.”

Emre Can came through the Bayern Munich academy before moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2013.

After one season, he was picked up by Premier League giants Liverpool and played four seasons at Anfield before moving to Juventus in July 2018.

At Juventus he struggled to convince Maurizio Sarri and moved back to Germany after 45 games across two seasons with the Bianconeri, confessing that the atmosphere at Signal Iduna Park reminds him of Anfield.

“I came here because I want to win the Championship,” he said about his move to the Westfalenstadion. “The environment is perfect and very reminiscent of that at Liverpool.

“It’s no coincidence that both clubs and fans love the same person, [former Dortmund coach] Jürgen Klopp."
