Sevilla Coach Unai Emery has revealed his reasons for turning down the chance to join Napoli or Milan this summer.

The Spaniard was wanted by both clubs after taking the La Liga side to a second consecutive Europa League title, but decided to stay on in Andalucia.

Emery spoke at length about his reasons for making this decision, as well as his thoughts on new Milan striker Carlos Bacca and Sevilla’s signing from the Rossoneri, Adil Rami.

“I admit that I had the chance to go and coach other teams, but Sevilla can grow as well,” he explained to Corriere dello Sport.

“Napoli? De Laurentiis is a President who demonstrated great interest in me and my work.

“I was pleased to meet him and I thank him, we had a nice discussion. It’s been discussed a lot here in Sevilla.

“Napoli offer a lot to a Coach in terms of development. He’s brought Napoli back to the top and they’re only missing a little to be in the football elite.

“Who knows, maybe in the future we will have an adventure together at Napoli, but right now it wasn’t the time to leave Sevilla, my priority is the Champions League and Napoli couldn’t give me that.

“Milan have been after me for two seasons, naturally I thank them and I’m always willing to listen.

“Bacca? At Milan he can’t have what we would’ve given him at Sevilla. He has the chance to wear the shirt of a sleeping giant and he wants to wake Milan up and be a part of the rebirth.

“It’s an opportunity for him and an important financial injection for us.

“Rami? I know him. His performances weren’t great at Milan, but here he can return to his level. What I remember is a great player.”
