“We no longer have the disappointment of going out of the Champions League,” said the Coach.

“We have the excitement of the Europa League, where the team is comfortable.”

That’s an understatement, as Sevilla have won the last two editions of the tournament, which is how they qualified for the Champions League as Spain’s historic fifth team.

“The group has brought us to what could have been expected. We beat Juve in a game of suffering. It’s a day to be happy. The crowd knew it was a game to suffer.

“We all wanted to go to the second round but we had to be realistic. We could do better, for sure. If it’s because City and Juventus are strong and we’re not, everyone has an opinion.”

Sevilla were able to snatch third place thanks to their 1-0 win over Juventus, sealed by Fernando Llorente, and Borussia Monchengladbach’s 4-2 defeat at Manchester City.
