The Bianconeri were looking to bring the French international to Turin this summer, but the French side refused to sell.

Matuidi’s agent, Mino Raiola, claimed the player was “very disappointed” that the move didn’t go through, but his Coach refutes that.

“He began his pre-season after everyone because he was the last to arrive,” Emery explained to RMC Sport.

“We have a lot of players, but with competition the team is better. During the season, players will be injured because of the buildup of matches.

“It was important for Matuidi to stay with us, I told him that three times. After that, it was up to him to work it out with the club and he told me he was happy to stay here.”
